AUSTIN AND KRISTAN RILEY
August 29, 2008
Well Dad we celebrated your birthday last night and boy was that a tough one. We went to Willow Springs just for you and ordered what you liked--fried chicken. We took up most of the back room. It sure was hard sitting there and not seeing you sitting at the end of the table. Mike sat in your seat for you. I can't begin to tell you how much I miss seeing you or talking to you on your birthday. Jaigen bought you a balloon for your birthday and put it on your chair. I heard Steph and the entire gang wrote you notes and attached them to balloons and let them go at the high school. Scott is still arranging the garage--you'd love it, Gary was down to celebrate your day and helped with the yard, Suzy called-she wished she could've been there, David wrote a wonderful poem about you, I cried, Steph let off balloons with notes on them for you, Dan also wrote a fantastic poem for you, Chris worked real hard on the yard--It's looking great, Sham made a cake for you and her teachers ate it, Andy and his gang came to the restaurant to celebrate, Aunt Nancy ate chicken just for you. Most importantly, Mom was first in line to celebrate your big day. She's been great and we'll take care of her just like you wanted us to. We all miss you more each day and it doesn't seem to be getting any easier. Just wanted to wish you a Happy 70th Birthday, Dad.
I love you tons,
Cindy-The Fav

Every time I would call home, you would answer the phone "WHAT". You would laugh (oh what a great laugh you had) and ask how I was doing or how things were going. You would then quickly ask if I wanted to speak to ma'ma' or "the head-headed wench" as you would playfully call mom. You always told me you loved me before handing over the phone.
I have called home many times since you left and it's sad when someone picks up the phone with a simple "hello".

I will miss seeing you at the kids' ball games, parked in front or where you're not supposed to be. I 'll miss seeing you every morning before school to have our cup of coffee and deciding whether or not to go to Carla's. I'll miss hearing "going to C's" for your cup of coffee at 9 sharp. Who'll take mom and I to Wal-Mart about every other day? Who's gonna laugh at Chris's stupid jokes? I miss seeing you in that huge chair giving high fives to all who enter. Speaking of the chair, thanks for all the change you left in the seat everytime you sat down. Everything around this town reminds me of you. I miss you. You meant so much to me. I love you and I cherish the time we got to spend together. I also cherish the moments you spent with the boys. Until we meet againLove,THE FAVE
Chris, mom and I were playing "quarters". Instead of drinking, the person would have to do a dare. Mom lost and she had to do a ballerina dance around dad in the kitchen. Dad just laughed and shrugged his shoulders.
Gary came home from the Air Force and thought he could take dad. Dad threw him against the wall, over the couch and then sat on him. Poor guy never had a chance. He never messed with him again.....wrong. Got his butt kicked the second time. Wasn't very bright was he?
I loved going to Glen Miller Park as a kid. Dad would buy a sack of hamburgers and cheeseburgers and a sack of fries. That was always a fun family "vacation".

"Coach". He was always "Coach". Not Mr. Harrison, Nelson or Nellie. I was just one of many, many student athletes lucky enough to have him as my coach. He taught me a lot, not just about sports, but about fairness and sportsmanship. He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

there are so many great and wonderful memories of one of the greatest guys to ever grace this earth. What a true american, father, mentor, DAD, teacher and inspirator (if that is a word). Taking me out back and telling me the last one standing wins this fight, ran away from that one. Filling the oil at all hours of the night when 10 below. At church one Sunday, he had one dollar left to his name and gave it to the offering, I love this guy. His hand out while you walk in the house to say love you and you are welcome. That laugh. I am so glad my son got 5 years with this man. The Fish and Chips though only 2 of them was the greatest time a man could asked for and dad just loved watching his sons have a great time and look like idiots. He golfed 36 holes this year with us and didn't complain once. His paddlings when young, him knowing what I got on a test before I did, his piece of crap cars, driving buses in the summer, fishing, always trying to invent things, his cooking and everything else I will always keep with me and so will all of you. He was and till is a legend and we should all learn and keep with us the values he had. Take care dad and do not let Jesus lick your glasses either, would not be fair to us. Spend some quality time with your dad, tell him hi and tell him thanks for my middle name.
