Story

Nelson L. Harrison, 69, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, August 12, 2008, in Reid Hospital, Richmond.He was born in Richmond on August 28, 1938, the son of Lawrence and Marguerite Leonard Harrison.

He had resided in Hagerstown for the past 43 years, moving here from Fountain City. He was a member of Hagerstown First United Methodist Church. Nelson was a teacher in the Nettle Creek School system for 43 years, where he coached several sports and was a member of the Indiana Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame. He taught Driver’s Education is several area schools throughout his career. He worked for many years as an EMT with Culberson Ambulance Service and recently received certification as Advanced EMT. He was a former employee of the Town of Hagerstown and a member of the Bass Pro Club.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Jackie (Reynolds) Harrison; 9 children, Scott Harrison (Vicki), Gary Harrison (Darlene), Suzy Bunce (Jim), David Harrison (Heather), Cindy Glaze (Randy), Stephanie Beeson (Mike), Daniel Harrison (Tasha), Chris Harrison (Lori) and Shamara Daniel (Jason); 18 grandchildren; 1 brother, Larry Harrison; a brother-in-law, Andy Reynolds; a Sister-in Law, Nancy Barton and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peg Myers.

Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 15, in Hagerstown High School Auditorium. Rev. Sue Cartee and Pastor Paul Gearhardt will officiate. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Fountain City. Visitation will be 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday in the auditorium.
